Copyright and takedown policy
Most of the data here is public domain and free for anyone to use. The pages around it are not. And if we have something of yours that we should not, this page is how it comes down.

What is free to use
Buoy readings, tide predictions, model output and forecast wording come from NOAA and the National Weather Service. Works prepared by officers or employees of the US Government as part of their official duties are not subject to copyright protection in the United States (17 U.S.C. §105). We claim nothing over them. Use them, and credit the agency that produced them.
What belongs to the operator
Copyright in everything else on breakatlas.com — the written pages, the design, the code, the way spots are selected and matched to stations, and the reports as compiled and presented documents — is held by Honeygoat GmbH. What you may do with it without asking is set out in section 3 of the Terms of Use: reading, printing, deep linking and short quotation with attribution are all fine.
The BreakAtlas name and wave mark identify this site. Using them in a way that suggests we endorse or are involved with your product needs permission.
Surf cams and third-party media
We operate no cameras. Where a spot page shows a live stream, it is the operator's stream, embedded only where that operator makes public embedding available. Where embedding is not offered or not permitted, the page links out instead. We do not scrape frames, restream, or frame a source against its terms.
Cam operators: if you would rather not be embedded here — for any reason, or none — write to info@breakatlas.com with the page and the stream. The embed is replaced with a plain link to you, or removed entirely if you prefer, and it is done the same way whether or not a formal notice is attached. No argument, no takedown paperwork.
Reporting infringing content
Honeygoat GmbH respects intellectual property rights and expects the same. If you believe material on breakatlas.com infringes a copyright you own or control, send a written notice to the contact below.

What the notice must contain
So that we can act quickly, and to meet the requirements of 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3), please include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act for them.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- Identification of the material you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it — a URL is best.
- Your contact details: name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Notices are reviewed by a person, not a filter. Where a claim is well founded, the material is removed or disabled promptly and you are told what was done. Where it is unclear, we come back to you with a question rather than guessing.
Counter-notice
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same address, including your signature, identification of the removed material and the location where it appeared, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief it was removed by mistake.
A note on misuse
Under 17 U.S.C. §512(f), a person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees. Takedown notices are a tool for rights holders. Where one arrives that is really an attempt to remove an inconvenient fact — an outage record, a station mapping, a correction — it will be answered, and it will not succeed.
Designated agent
BreakAtlas hosts no user-generated content: there are no accounts, no uploads and no comments. Everything published here is published by the operator. Copyright notices should therefore go directly to the contact above, which is monitored and is the fastest route to a result.
Other complaints
Trademark, publicity, privacy or defamation concerns go to the same address. Requests concerning your personal data are handled under the privacy policy, which sets out the rights you have and how long we take.
